Graz and Styria – Culture and Nature in Perfect Symbiose
Graz & Styria – the green heart of Europe and the home of the Lipizzaner horses!
Day 1
Arrival in Graz. Meet your local guide who will take you on a city tour. Graz turns its visitors into time travellers and takes them back to long past centuries. Here, you shake hands with the Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque period. You already know romantic lanes, Gothic churches and Baroque inner courtyards. Your guide will lead you through the architectural diversity of the city to the Palace of the ‘Landesregierung’, ‘Herrengasse’, ‘Landhaushof’ and the artificial island on the Mur river and the modern ‘Kunsthaus’. Upon the ‘Schlossberg’ you discover the “Uhrturm” (clock tower), a landmark of the city, from where you can enjoy beautiful views over the entire city.
Reserve the rest of the day for yourself and explore this lively young city at your own pace.
Day 2
On the second day, you head to Eastern Styria - to the Styrian Apple Region. Fertile soil, mild climate and a lot of sunshine make the fruit thrive here exceptionally well, which lends the region its name. Time-honoured customs are still lived here in various forms and passed on to you in a vivid way. Enjoy the undulating landscape with fruit orchards as far as the eye can see. Towards the end of April, when all flowers are in bloom, or towards mid of September, when ripe fruit is being collected you can marvel at a great mixture of different colours. Now there is time for leisure and visit of the Castle and the garden of Herberstein, mysteriously hidden in a romantic and wild landscape. Afterwards, we visit a small farm where you have the possibility to taste apple “Schnapps” of their own production.
Enjoy the afternoon in the beautiful park around the castle and relax in these wonderful surrounding.
Day 3
Our excursion will take you to the Styrian jewel of Piber, the home of the famous ‘Lipizzaner’ horses of the ‘Spanish riding school’. On the federal stud farm, the well-known horses are born and raised. Did you know that Lipizzaner horses are black at birth? In the afternoon, we continue to Bärnbach, which is only a few kilometres away. The Barbara Church, which was designed by the Austrian painter Friedensreich Hundertwasser, is one-of-a-kind. After a visit to a local glass factory, we end this day’s excursion.
