The Austrian Lake District
Fabulous "Salzkammergut" – the Austrian Lake District, is one of Austria’s most popular destinations.
Day 1: Arrival
Arrive at your hotel in the "Salzkammergut" region of Austria, your home for the next few days.
Day 2: Lake Tour
The day begins with a tour of the lakes, visiting St. Gilgen, the birthplace of Mozart's mother, and St. Wolfgang with its famous White Horse Inn. Additionally, you may go for a boat trip across Lake Wolfgang and a once-in-a-lifetime journey with the "Schafberg" railway to an altitude of 1,190m above sea level. In the afternoon, we suggest you have a trip to Mondsee, where you can visit the wedding church of the famous movie "The Sound of Music".
Day 3: Lake Attersee
Make your stay unforgettable and travel on the Attergau narrow gauge railway to Attersee and then a round trip on Lake Attersee. From the train, you can enjoy the picturesque views of the sur- rounding Kalkalpen Mountains and from the boat the marvelous lakeside scenery. Free time in Attersee will perfectly end your day.
Day 4: Salzburg
This will be the opportunity to visit one of the most outstanding cities in the world, Salzburg. During the walking tour, a local guide will introduce you to the major sights and secrets of the Old Town before you visit Hohensalzburg Fortress, the largest fortress in Austria. This unique landmark, with its eye-catching baroque towers peeking out high above the city, provides the city’s world-famous silhouette.
Day 5: Bad Ischl
Today we recommend a half-day trip to Bad Ischl. This famous spa town in the Lake District was the preferred summer residence of the Habsburg family and is known for its impressive "Kaiser Villa". The villa and its park were named to be one of the greatest treasures of the 19th century and are a direct contrast to the magnificent splendor of the Vienna palaces.
Day 6: Departure
Extend your stay, combined it with another tour, or depart home.
Other Excursions Ideas: Zwölferhornbahn, St Gilgen: For the adventurous amongst you, we recommend a trip up the Zwöl- Ferhorn cable car for spectacular photo opportunities.
