Visit the Belvedere in Vienna and admire the most important collection of Austrian art from the Middle Ages to the present day. Explore one of the most beautiful Baroque buildings in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Belvedere in Vienna, one of the most beautiful Baroque buildings in Europe. Admire the numerous works of art by various artists of different eras. The huge collections of the Belvedere include several thousand art objects, a selection of which is displayed in the permanent exhibition in the Upper Belvedere. In this art gallery, you can gain deep insight into the history of Austrian art in an international context from the Middle Ages to the mid-20th century.

In addition to visiting the historical Marble Hall, you can visit the Palace Chapel and the magnificent Sala terrena (ground floor hall) in the Upper Belvedere and admire a number of impressive works from more than 500 years of art history. Along with the world’s largest Klimt collection that includes important works from the Art Nouveau period such as “The Kiss” and “Judith”, it houses masterpieces by Schiele, Kokoschka, Waldmüller, Renoir, Monet, and Van Gogh as well as important collections from the 19th and 20th centuries, the Baroque period, and the Middle Ages. On the ground floor of the Upper Belvedere, you can see the art of Classical Modernism and the interwar period as well as the Baroque collection on the piano nobile. A new room design was developed for the masterpieces by Gustav Klimt, allowing “The Kiss” to be presented in a new light. Discover the Winter Palace, the new exhibition venue at the Belvedere in Vienna’s city center. With the opening of the new – and fourth – exhibition venue of the Belvedere, a further important art hub is to be established in the center of Vienna through close cooperation between the city palace and the garden palace – the Winter Palace and the Belvedere Palace.

Since the opening of the 21er Haus in November 2011, the Belvedere is able to permanently exhibit artworks in the collection of the post-war period to the present-day to the public. Parts of the collection have been presented on the first floor of the 21er Haus since June 2012, offering different perspectives through changing thematic exhibitions. The focus is on contemporary art from Austria and its international contextualization, thus representing the programmatic orientation of the 21er Haus.
